My 86 rides like a brick with aftermarket lift springs , ZERO suspension travel, i cant move when bouncing my 250lb body on the bumpers, I did a spring over swap on the back and the softness there levels the entire ride of the jeep as a whole. Now the back sits a little higher,
I though about linking the front, ORRRRRRR .... i can find someone that makes a 4.5 inch lift spring ( that has some travel) and keep the front spring under.

Maybe i could run revolver shackles in the front so i can get some droop off road, are they safe to run at the front?

thanx
Oh yeah, and if there is anyone near Big Bear , CA that does decent price fab work, the place up here charges a grip to do stuff!

Yeah, i loosened the upper and lower bolts, not sure what brand the springs are i can get a part number off them shortly, i know they have a white 4 digit number on them.

It is really ridiculous how stiff they are, makes no sense to me. I heard the RE 4.5 inch spring were good, but i also here they are goin through fincancial issues

i have thought about it ( i have done it on a chevy a time or two) , but i do need the lift, running flat yj in the rear and the front is about a 3.5 inch spring i am guessing, but i hav 33's so i cant really go down any in the front, i could drop the back a bit, but the front is my problem

the numbers on the spring are 4397 and P42728 , they suck big time:mad:

I don't know for sure, but I would think you would still need high steer with coilovers. It's a hight thing.
I'm not sure you can find any 4" springs that soft. If I were you I'd just spend the money and do a SOA with yj's one the front too.

i have the yj fronts sitting the garage, but after checkin into crossover or high steer solutions , i was shocked at the prices

i cant seem to find any fairly priced options

Your right it isn't cheep. It's almost as cheep to just get a Dana 44 with high steer and narrow it.

i have seen a couple sik CJ's with the full width set up, i was kinda thinking about going that route, but my jeep so clean and original , no rust, original paint ( peeling like crazy) but thats hard to find, also the last year, 1986

i am on the fence on what to do,

A high steer kit like the one cj and a few others used only run about $95 (I know that's still a little pricey but considering other options, its cheap), it comes with bushings and a drill bit, and uses all of your factory steering linkages, you just drill out your factory knuckles and "flip" your tie rods to the top. I can't remember where they got it, maybe they'll drop in and help you out, I plan to use the same kit when I convert to power steering.

DROOOID 2

95 bucks isnt too bad, i think if i just flip the tie rod that it would run the drag link straight into the spring pack, maybe you can post or refer me to some pics of this setup
thanx

That's not true high steer, it only moves you to the top of where you are now. It works well with a 4" sua lift. But not soa.

Havok, what kind of 3 link do you want to do on that CJ?

Before we go and start to get crazy with the steering, we need to know about the link geometry, Have you picked out conversion ?

Now is where it becomes interesting.
Baja! greetings from the republic.:D

hey IO
I was just wondering, seems he is discussing hitting springs and we do not even have a set of coils down there yet

Havoc seems a reasonably intelligent young man and I don't think he is one of those that thinks a 3 link or a SOA will be a quick , cheep and easy fix for suspension problems.
This whole thing is completely beyond my experience so I think I shall just go be a fly on the wall someplace. :D
It just occurred to me that if anybody wanted a really good example of well engineered insanity they may check out some of Longhorns threads about his CJ8 suspension.

i am working with rebel offroad in irvine ( i think), they are gonna check into a 3 link,

high steer wont be "needed" if i go 3 link with coilovers, its always better, just not necessary because the links run behind the axle, unlike leaf springs

Even if hes 3 linking it wont it greatly increase the angle from his pitman arm to his knuckle? Thats the reason for the hight steer set up is to try and match the steering linkage and the tie rod to prevent bump steer. Yes high steer will also help get t he linkage away from the leaf spring in a SOA set up but its the angle of the steering linkage thats important.
