I'm going to take the Howell TBI dive!!!! Yay!
Thanks 81, did you go with the 4bbl set up. I'm thinking edelbrock preformer with egr...
Thank you. As far as the hei. What were you able to get rid of? Haven't done any homework on it yet.

I have the 6 Cylinder so your Howell kit will be different.
As far as what I was able to get rid of.. There were 3 electronic modules, the old junk distributor and its wiring and the coil, miles of wiring and the best part the air pump, the vacuum sensors and relays and all of that problematic vacuum hose.
When I changed out the distributor I used my old gear and had to bush it to fit the new CRT HEI.
In California it really makes sense to go this route for the SMOG police

Thanks 81, this is my year for smog so gonna do the swap. I just don't want to remove anything I shouldn't. What about the vapor canister?

sorry you need the Canister and Fuel Tank Lines. Really isn't a problem and Howell was great help when doing the work.

Hey!
I know this is a really old thread but I was hoping to get an update on how your Howell TBI is treating you these days?

Plus, I really want to upgrade to the Howell TBI (or Affordable EFI or Holley TBI) for my 76 CJ7 jeep. I already installed a 2 bbl intake manifold from a 85 CJ7 and would like to know if the Howell TBI kit it is a wise investment?

Why? Love my jeep but hate the carb. First vehicle with a carburetor, so that could be it too. Already went through a Carter (1 bbl) bought jeep from previous owner- choke rod was missing as well as a couple of things ---- then bought a NEW Weber 32/36 Dgev, (Flooded, as it was over jetted from factory) Then got a junk yard MC 2150 -rebuilt it. BUT I can't figure out how to do the adjustments on the choke, choke pull-off, fast idle screw, and fast idle cam.. And frankly, I DON'T care to figure it out.. Just want the jeep to have a learning brain/computer.. So I don't have to think. :p Ur.....

Anyways, I digress...

If anyone has any thoughts on any of the fuel injection kits I've listed please chime in...
I have thought about a junk yard tbi.. But since I am a newb, I would rather have it easier and all in one kit. :D

Any thoughts? Comments? Suggestions. :notworthy:

I have had the Howell conversion since '02, and it has been a great improvement. The "Team Rush" upgrade should be added with it. Learning how these systems work will upgrade your brain also. I am not really sure if you live in a smog state, since that would be one of the considerations for purchasing a t.b.i or m.p.f.i. system, only Howell and Chrysler make smog legal kits. I like the t.b.i. due to its simplicity. There are numerous write ups on the net on these systems also.

I put my Howell on in 07, one of the best mods I've done. I think it would run upside down now. :D

Thanks guys for sharing your thoughts. :D
Is the Howell TBI capable of learning or does it just pump out enough fuel and air mixture as programed into it?
Again :ty:

This is a big decision and expensive one at that... But, since I can't even get the mc 2150 adjusted properly I know I will have to look into TBI...

By the way, is it EFI (Electric Fuel Injection) OR TBI )Throttle Body Injection)
I think its TBI... :wtf:
:chug:

The Howell is throttle body.
It does have a learning curve, since it is rather old tec. it's learning ability might not be as much as the newer EFI but it is also much simpler to install.
If I were you I would order it from Howell as they ask questions about your ride so they can burn the chip to perform with what you have.
All said I still love mine and have had no problems with it. Mine is on a 350 chevy but the unit is the same just bigger injectors.
