Went down to Cañon City to look for some Jeep parts at our bone yard and drop my moose antlers off to my oldest brother, who is also my taxidermist.
On the way back North, I stopped by the Independence Trail System just North of Penrose.
Relatively new system of absolutely insane trails!
-System consists of 4 trails: Independence, Patriot, Freedom and Liberty. I was in my pickup and parked and hiked about an hour and covered a loop which included Independence, Patriot and Freedom.
- Honestly, these are the most hardcore canyon trails I have ever seen! Winching anchor points are plentiful, embedded in the rock. Signs of vehicle carnage are everywhere.
-My report on this trail is brief: Rock buggies/extreme vehicles only. Expect rollovers. Watch for rattle snakes!

Exit of Patriot trail. Ledges are over 5’ tall.
