So I need to paint the inside of the hood. The outside of the rig is white, inside engine compartment is gloss black, or will be.

I am thinking I want the hood white on the inside like the outside which would be easier to paint but wonder how it would look gloss black like the rest of the compartment.

Any suggestions, or ideas ?

As a suggestion, use white since it would absorb the engine heat. Where as black would reflect it.

I have always thought black absorbs heat that why the factorys paint the radiator black.

Thanks guys.

Lighter does reflect due to the material's emissivity, but that is more about light than heat. However, I am not sure it would make a difference in the engine compartment temp due to the fact that so much heat is radiating up off the engine, this is convection, which I think plays a larger part in the heat transfer. The best at absorbing is irregular dull black surfaces.

I do think I am adding vents in the hood
to help with the heat anyway.

I am thinking black would 1, look good when the hood was open. 2, show less oil and dirt when kicked up.

White would just be easier to paint because it would be an easier one color process. Wouldn't have to worry about paint lines.

I would like to do a mural under my hood, but who would really see it!!
Paint it a light color so it reflects light better at night, should you have engine trouble.

That's a good call right there.

Back in the day my dad built a lot of custom cars, a body and paint guy, and I remember a few murals under the hood. So you see them at the car shows!

:)From the factory the color under the hood or anywhere on that Jeep for that matter was the same as the body color............simple!

:D:D:D:D

True, very true. Which is one reason I have to paint it. They did a color change and didn't paint in there.
