Can anyone tell me if this is a true military color? If so, can you identify it further as to branch or better yet, specifically what the name or code of the color is?

It may just be the light, but it looks a lot lighter than olive drab to me...more of a green/gray maybe? Maybe I'm color blind too...lol.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

When you say a military color, who's military? assuming you are talking US military there are numerous colors used at different time frames so it's no simple answer. There are at least 2 olive drab colors used on early US military vehicles. The YJ does look kinda light for any colors I've seen.

My guess is Krylon green The Hummer H1 was being built about the time that YJ waas. Is it a real Military vehicle?

Yes, US military. I agree as far as different colors being used at different periods, I just haven't been able to match this one up with anything I've found.

As for the YJ being a military vehicle, no, it was someones "militarizing" of it.

I'm kinda with gert on the Krylon rattle can thing, I have tried some of there flat colors and they are not accurate in terms of matching Mil-spec colors.
A YJ US military vehicle now that's funny, last Jeep would have been the M38A1 that looks like this...

I wish I knew how many gallons of that I have sprayed. :) It's age green a semi gloss the number is 24052

Thanks rr41mag, I'm assuming that you meant "sage green"? I guess you'll have to tell me whose number 24052 references and far as paint mfg.?

Thanks again for the help.

That number is a Mil-spec color number and will not mater who makes it, they have to follow a very defined spec.
Getting it becomes the problem, either you know somebody or you order a min. 500 gallon order if you can get a vendor to sell to you.
Been there-done that with my Mil-spec Tan I used on my 3B project, ended up finding a aircraft restoration company that was being liquidated and was able to buy 1 gal.

that's really inexpensive paint! the UPS charges are a killer.:D
wondering where I can stick one of these.:D

The Military uses Carc-Chemical Agent Resistant Coating. Gillipsie sells us non Military types a single stage equivalent so we dont hurt ourselves or the environment. Their colors match pretty well to original CARC, but dont hold up nearly as well. Many a Military truck owner whose used the civilian version have complained about how fast the colors fade. My truck is Carc from the Military done in 90, and the trailer I did in 09 using Rustoleum.

They claim to be Mil-spec and if this is fact they would have to be Carc. for a given paint used, early colors were not carc.
There are many diff Mil-specs for paint and the spec may change in regard to what is used at any given time, it seams likely your truck painted in 90 would be less envirnmentaly safe than todays spec.
This is the maker of the paint I used, with great caution.

Oh ya, cool rig!

I dont doubt that Gillipsie makes paint for the Military, but everything I have ever read about CARC(old and new formulas) is that they are 2 part(stage) applications. On the website you posted it only mentions to thin it with "Synthetic Enamel Reducer " I have a close friend in the MV hobby that did a frame off restoration on a Deuce and used Gillipsie's single stage low luster Vietnam era green. It was very badly faded within a year, almost chalky. He put almost 2 years into the resto and was/is sick to his stomach with the lack of long term results. I personally dont need to be that "correct" and will use the same Rustoleum rattle cans that I did my trailer with when the time comes to paint the Deuce. It's been 2+ years on the trailer paint job, it sits out side in the elements year round, and it still looks darn good.

Read up here, This is the real deal and there MIL-DTL-530039C Type 1 coating is what I used and is a polyurethane single component CARC.
I am reading this off the can and at the bottom says::eek:
FOR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY
By professionally trained personnel
Not for sale to or use by the general public

I learned something new:D Until now I'd not heard of a single stage CARC. How long ago did you paint your Jeep? Has it held up well? IIRC you said you used tan which holds up better to So Cal sun

It's only been 6-8 months and it's a garage queen anyway at this piont:D.
