I posted an electrical question on the proper forum and it was brought to my attention tha the coolant hose going to the manifold was bypassed. I’m not sure why the PO would have done this. But I also noticed that there are no hoses going to or from the heater core. Any input on this?

Let me also add that the location of your fuel filter is a fire hazard, when those hoses crack and leak.

Your fuel filter is mounted in the correct position. You should have the hoses mounted away from any heat source such as the exhaust manifold. They can dry out and crack from the heat.

You could reconnect the heater hoses and intake manifold by finding some underhood pics of CJs on the net then check for leaks. If your heater core is leaking you could replace it or reroute the hoses around it until a replacement of the heater core is done.

It's a known issue-I have seen 3 CJ fires over the yrs that the FD later traced back to the fuel filter dripping. It was a known safety issue, and the NTSB was looking at it for possible recall, back in the day.
I have mine rerouted to the top of the valve cover, away from the heat of the exhaust manifold. I replace the hoses every year with certified fuel line.

i live in Texas. Its freaking hot here and I thought that having 200 degree engine coolant circulating through my intake manifold was a stupid idea so i bypassed the intake and ran the heater hose straight to the heater core.

your intake will be a little cooler and the air inside your intake will be a little cooler and more dense, in the winter in northern states not having that coolant circulating can give you freezing issues with your carb

It is hot here on the MS Gulf Coast too, so I pulled out the entire heater system, including the water lines to the heater core and the heater core itself. That was five years ago and I haven't missed it.

Yeah, there are some places where you do not really need a heater. Mine has been gone for a long time. It is a bit tricky to route the hose lines when still using coolant in the intake manifold.

Yeah it gets dam hot here in the Gulf Coast in the summer, but since I hardly ever have my soft top on even in the winter that heater feels good in the winter. Also the defrost works well on the windshield when needed and also drys out the humidity in the gauges real well

It does get cool here in South Florida during the winter. I never really thought about needing the defroster for the windshield. Very good point. For the cost of some hoses and probably a heater core (there has to be some reason why the system was bypassed) its worth it. That and all the cables for the heater controls. its money well spent.

You never know maybe you will move further north one day

LOL no way on that!!!! After spending 40 years in NY. I'll keep the heat down here.

I’m hoping to convince my wife to be a snow bird when we retire, it’s to freakin hot in Texas

Yeah I don't really know why but you guys over there seam to get hotter in the summer and colder in the winter than the Gulf Coast and can get the snow & hail also that we rarely get

You have constant 70+ degree wind coming off the gulf

I’m to far inland to get the good gulf winds but to far south to get the good snow lol

The water is 80 - 85 plus and I'm not on the coast. We are usually 90 - 94 with this thick humidity

Oh sorry I thought you were. That humidity sucks

We must be in a sweet spot - we'll get 95+ in the summer, and down to low teens in the winter....... my record for cold on the motorcycle is 12 degrees. Since it's gone, the Jeep will have to suffice. Looking to beat that with the top off!!

We replaced the Road King with the Jeep. Got rid of the top and doors... so now we have a heater, shade cover, and windshield wipers... Life is good!
