My son's '88 J20 has a problem, it starts and runs fine, but, after it runs and warms up for about 10-15 mins, it just shuts off like someone turned off the key then won't restart. Changed the coil, same thing.. ignition module maybe??? It has the AMC 360 V8, by the way.

My money would be on the ignition module. Might want to post the question over on the IFSJA forum.

^^ Me too^^

You said the engine shuts down and won't restart. Is it not running now or does it start up after sitting a bit?

It starts again after sitting awile, he bought a used module of ebay the other day, when it gets here I'll let you all know how it went..

Thanks for the replies, wasn't sure anyone was reading the non CJ threads! LOL!

My bet is on the ignition module..

Try pouring cold water on it next time it happens. I bet it starts up again. Sometimes they act up with heat.

Mine took a dive recently, and I had to whack it with a hammer or back of a screwdriver to make it fire again..! Not heat related, mine must have been an internal short.... I fixed it good by throwing the darn thing away!!

Sorry guys, been fixed awhile now and it was the module. The one we recieved was the wrong one however.. About a week later we were pulling the engine out of my soms '85 GT Mustang, I looked over on the fenderwell and there sat another module.. well I had learned earlier in the week that it was all about the color of the grommet on the module where the wiring came out of it, more than a year thing, and it was blue like Jeep.. but again the connectors were different than the J20, being an '88, so we cut them off and spliced the correct connectors from the bad module and she fired right up!

On a side note, after some horse trading (he owed me some money), I now own that '88 J20!!
