Hi All, I have been giving some serious thought to putting a SBC in my 82 CJ7 . Started with the adapter sites and the big money adapters. Was trolling ebay and came across a Jeep bell housing part #3251268 that is supposed to have bolt patterns for the T-4 , T-5 SR4 and T-176 transmissions on the back and small block Chevy on the front. Anyone ever used this bell housing in a conversion? Thanks and Aloha

I think you're talking about the bellhousing jeep used on the Iron Duke. It is SBC on the front and jeep/ford on the back. It won't fit the larger flywheel though (168 tooth I think). But the smaller (153 tooth I think) out of a camaro will work in that bellhousing. Look for 1980 to 1983 CJs with the 4cylinder.

FYI guys, the OP may be experiencing the "can't re-sign in" issue a lot of new users have been plauged with. If he / she doesn't respond, he / she might not be able to...

My Jeep has a tired AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l mated to a T-4 which from everything I've read is not worth trying to use with a SBC. My thinking is if I could find a T 176 tranny to bolt up to the Dana 300 Transfer Case and use this bell housing to mate to a SBC it would be less expensive than to use say a SM465 and have to buy a $500 adapter kit and have a Transmission shop change the output shaft. I don't want to chimp out but I also don't want to spend $4k on a Jeep that's only worth $5 or 6k. If anyone has any thoughts I would appreciate hearing them. Also I live in Hawaii so shipping heavy stuff is a bitch. Thanks
