I HAVE ACQUIRED A 1970 JEEP WAGONEER AND WISH TO PURCHASE A WRANGLER BODY, THE ENGINE IS A AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l WITH A 727 AUTOMATIC Transmission , DOES ANY ONE HAVE KNOWLEDGE ON WHAT MY OPTIONS WOULD BE INORDER TO SWAP THE SIX-BANGER FOR AN 8 CYLINDER THAT WOULD BASICALLY BOLT UP TO THE Transmission .

Would a 318 or 360 dodge engine bolt up to a jeep/mopar 727 Transmission in a 1970 jeep wagoneer.

I believe if it will bolt up to the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , it should bolt up to a AMC 304 , 360, 401 AMC V-8 as well.

no it won't, jeep had it's own bolt pattern

The AMC I6 and V8 share the same bolt pattern so if you want to go to a V8 without adaptors I would look in that direction but I would check the bolt pattern of your Transmission just to be sure as the 1970 Waggy V8 was a Buick 350; not sure what Jeep did to mix and match. Just remember the AMC v8s are externally balanced so you need to have the proper flex plate for the specific engine.

If the wagon has a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l /t-999 it was swapped in so the AMC 304 /360/401 would be an ideal V8 for your setup.



FYI, the factory 6 cyl/auto offered in a 70 wagon was the OHC 230/Borg-Warner AS-8F
