Anyone been following the series AMERICA THE STORY OF US on the History Channel.Very interesting segement they had on them.Designed by Bantam manufactured by Overland Willis.Over 600,000 made in WW11 alone.Called the GP Jeep or General Purpose.Said they were a one of the major turning points of the war.Windshield had a a rifle stored on the inside frame. They were low to the ground and hard to hit hauled 7 people. It was pretty interesting 5 minute segment with film. 600k made where are they today.I've seen films of them laying in the bottom of the ocean still in crates in Hawaii and the Mediteranian.:chug:

It has been called the turning weapon of WWII and I can see why. it made the US forces the most mobile and unstoppable in every theater.
I also have seen pictures of the crates in the ocean, sad.
I have about 7 history books on Jeeps, I love them. an American Icon and the only vehicle still made in the USA, Toledo Ohio, I will run them till I die.
As an American I am proud to own Jeeps. Name another vehicle that has been made for close to 50 years and yo can still put a first year and current year side by side and see that they are the same.
God Bless the USA

one more thing, I am coming home this morning from work, doing 85 in my Crossfire, Mercedes engine barely even pumping. I am on 4 lanes heading east and see a CJ7 ahead, I slow down and circle it 3 or 4 times adsorbing every detail of it's original pant job and the clean lines it shows off. then it is pedal down and continue home.
That was a highlight of my day to see that jeep.
What more could I say but I m hooked.

They were interviewing a WW11 Vet.He was in Italy when they first arrived. The plane flew over with Jeeps in the crate. He said they assembled them on the ground so Germans wouldn't drive off with them if discovered. He was guiding the pilot in for the drop. The plane was supposed to circle out over the Med and come back and make the drop.He said a dumb a-- rookie started dropping them on the way out and he watched them all drop in the Med.He was stuck there for another week cause that was supposed to be his transportation also.Said he got the name of the idiot who dropped them and was gonna do some butt kicken but the Germans shot him later on before I got to him.Pretty interesting ole Vet.Wish I had the video you would have enjoyed it.
