jeep keep getting hot

Hey jeeps. my 79 CJ7 keeps running hot? i flushed the anti freeze and changed the thermostat. I figure i change the water pump also. but come to find out the old one was still spinning good when we took it out. i have not but the new one in yet will tomorrow. But i ran into a little problem. i got one of the long bolts confused where it went with the other longer one and went into the block. we i pulled it out some fluild came out. Is that really bad someone told me that when i put the bolt back in it we stop it from leaking jsut put some clue around the threads. what do yall think?

so did you put the new pump on and it was still leaking around the bolts? did you just put the longer bolt where the shorter bolt should be? therefore its not getting as tight as its supposed to be? am i missing something here?

its an v8 amc motor. and no on the old pump it has spacers on it where the two long bolts are. but the old pump had been painted green so we could really notice that the spacers where there or well didnt really look hasrd enough. and the two spacers that came with the new one was used for something else so we jsut going to use the older spacer for the new one. when i put the bolts in with out the spacer they both could have worked so i thought that it had to go but it didnt ha so i tighten it to hard and notice that it was wrong bolt. pulled it out and freeze came out. so i went into the block. but i have not put new one on it i will tomorrow. jsut didnt know if it going to be ok after i put the bolts it. i going to look at another jeep also to figure out where some lind of plate goes? it has two holes on one end and one on the other?
