It’s kind of funny, some of the things we remember from our childhoods. For me, one of my memories that continues to hang on, or I hang onto it, is from about May of 1962.
My father had taken me trout fishing with him even though I was barely 2 years old. Being inquisitive as 2 year olds are I remember looking down into the water. Next I remember the surprise of suddenly being in the water and floating, and then my father guiding me back to the bank with the tip of his fly rod.
Lastly I remember standing in the back of Dad’s 1956 Willy’s Station Wagon while he changed my clothes.

Ken,

My family got 4 jeeps in the 70's (one amc eagle, Truck, 2 Wagoneers) and couple yrs after first jeeps we joined a jeep club. I was a Good Kid and the adult members let me hang and learn.... they were very good to me and I was a good kid.

One of the rides was a old ski slope that was too far in the woods and hard to get to. It was very long and very few vehilce could get up the ski hill. It was very steep, too steep to turn around, so it was up all the way nose up or back up backwards. Back the 3-4 vehicles could make it up the hill. My Jeep Truck got like 100ft, a ford truck tried after me and did even less.

The fun part........ Tommy M a mechanic type guy that had some cool vehicles including two jeeps a blue one and a yellow one. He took me for a ride up that hill I WILL NEVER FORGET. Went up fast, bouncing, he was give me a TRUE ride. Flying up this what seemed like over a mile hill, we went air borne several times. One air borne event..... we were heading for a large bolder that would have done a lot of damage. I recall? it being about 4 ft sq or so, but we were in the air.

Tommy cranked the wheel and we jumped when we landed and just missed the bolder. Jut the CJ jumped... We made it to the top, turned around, and CJ would just sit there looking down the hill. Tommy goes... OOOPS. We took out the front axle and it was locked up. We unlocked the hubs and went down the hill. The blue jeep had lots of power and looked cool.

Tommy finnished the rest of the trail ride in 2 wheel drive and did as well as the rest of the club.

His yellow jeep had tunnel intake with 2 four barrels. Yellow jeep could pull the front up 1st to 2nd.

Seeing what the Cj's could do in the 70s is why I have one now as a adult.

Thank you Tommy, and the other club members, they might see this,

Fred
