Try your lot or purchase a lottery ticket. No, no more a fun. Let me congrat you in advance for your good luck if the experiment is successful finally.
A running AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , Dana 44 's out of 73 Wagoner, Dana 300 Transfer Case plus T-5 Transmission --- a great combination really.
Let us hope for the best.

Beware. The '73 Wagoneer never came with a T-5 . Stock it came a T14A, optional was a T-18 . Maybe he doesn't know what he has and you can get the T-18 cheap (unfortunately it had a 4.02 first, not the granny). For my money you can keep the T14A. The two I had (behind a 225) were junk, even after an expensive, reputable rebuild. Eventually swapped to the T-18 and life was indeed good. Good luck!

Re-reading the post, I realized that no mention was made that the T-5 came from the waggy. My mistake. My T-5 ran good for a couple of years before I sold the Jeep, but I don't feel it would be a good swap choice. First would be a T-18A, then a T-176 behind a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l in a stock configuration. Non stock, NV4500(Dodge, syncro in all gears including reverse) then an NV3550.

Waggys out of a '73 will be good, except that they will be about 7" wider than stock 77 CJ axles. You plan to cut them or run Bushwackers?(which wouldn't be all bad!)
