Hey all!

I installed a grand wagoneer steering column in my CJ7 and recently purchased the steering wheel to match it. However, I am having issues with removing the steering horn button... sure I can just rip it off but would prefer not to break it.;)

I removed the three screws on the back, but it appears there is still a plastic clip holding everything together.
Perhaps someone knows how to remove the little horn button?? That way I can install the wheel on the column.

Is the back part supposed to be able to pop off?
Or do I need to first remove the horn button?

Does the horn button have two side clips? If yes, what is the best way to gently remove the button so as not to destroy the clip?

Thanks for the help. Pictures would be great! But I would appreciate detailed instructions. If it is as simple as popping the button off, I would like to know that too. Thanks!!!!:chug:

Never mind. I figured it out.

After a glass of champagne, I was able to remove the horn button without breaking it.:banana::banana::banana:

I really can't give you detailed instructions because I have never taken the steering wheel from a Wagoneer apart. However, I have taken steering wheels apart that look very similar to yours. All I had to do was to use a flat blade, wedge it along the seam and push or pry towards the center of the wheel. A stiff putty knife sometimes works better than a screwdriver because it distributes the load more evenly. Sometimes you have to do all tabs (usually 4 to 6 of them) at the same time or else as you release one, another pops back in. Not always, but if you find yourself wondering why the one you just thought you released, won't release, this may be why. The screws you removed may or may not be part of what is holding the button in place, they may only be holding the metal parts of the horn mechanism. Look for some tabs on the button and try gently prying on them.
Hope this puts you on the right track.:)

Super! I guess you figured it out while I was typing!
