Hello fellow jeepsters I'm new to this great forum I hope someone can help me
I've changed everything in my ignition system, (1979 CJ5 ) Coil(motorcraft upgrade),ballast resistor, & Ignition module. My plug wires cap, rotor and plugs all new. I'm not getting spark. The only thing I haven't done is change distributor. I'm being told that the pickup is probably shot. How do these go bad ?? I've check continuity in the pickup and it seems to be ok.
I recently parked the jeep so I could repaint it, up until then she was running like a clock, I didn't do anything to the motor, The only thing I took out of the ignition loop was the tach, I reinstalled the tach since then.
I did notice that my Ignition mod was melted in the back, and the coil was rusted to hell (it was mounted on the firewall in a bad spot where water was steadily dripping on it), that's why I replaced both, plus I had somehow burned the coil fuse at the block. (possible burned out wire,? I'm reading 12 +volts at the coil wiring)It also seems I have continuity throughout all the ignition wiring. The only thing I haven't changed was the distributor. Do the distributor pickups fry ?? at this point I'm freekin stumped. Thanks in advance.
