- 1979 Jeep CJ5 with 304 V8, T18 Transmission, Dana 20 Transfer case with TeraLow 3:1 gears, 4.88 axle gears, Detroit Locker up front and Ox Locker in back with 1 piece axle shafts, 36" SuperSwamper SX Tires, Shackle reversal, MileMarker Hydraulic winch, MSD 6A ignition.
I took my Jeep out again yesterday. Since I moved to the south end of Durango I have been going to the La Plata Mountains more than ever. The trail head is only a 20 minute drive. I don't even air back up to get home. I don't get up to highway speeds so 9 psi works out fine.
I took my Jeep up Lewis Mountain. Part way up the mountain I came to this mine.
I've been here before but I've never found the name of this mine on any map.
The trail was in good shape. Most of the trails in the La Plata mountains climb steeply up the mountains but this one wasn't too bad. I only had to activate my OX locker once.
Near the top I got to this sign.
I park my Jeep and continue on foot.
Koda finds the first mud puddle to lie down in.
As I continue on foot I am asking myself, "Is this trail really too narrow for a CJ5 to turn around?"
