Hey guys I have been wanting to put a jerry can mount on the back of my CJ7 . I dont have much money right now, so I cant afford to buy one of the $200-300 holders online. If you guys had a good idea for a simple build to put on the back of the jeep then please post pictures, drawings, and a good explanation of it.

Thanks! :grinjeep:

I'm thinking along those lines as well. I've been toying with using some angle or box tubing and building it off the spare tire mount. Haven't gotten beyond the 'thining about it stage' yet. Other things are taking precedence.

any one got any pics of their mounts? been searching but cant trip over anything with pics. Also opinions..metal or plastic. was looking at the old school looking can

i currently have a steel german jerry can strapped to the roll bar in the back of my CJ5 and am hoping to make a rear swing out carrier that will carry 2 jerry cans next to the body then outside of that the spare tire and on top will be my high lift and a cooler/ gear rack. and I'm still trying to find a place to mount shovel pick and a axe. as far as what can i like the german nato cans they are steel and heavy but they are air tight and won't leak unless you somehow manage to puncture one (highly unlikely) or if you wan something smaller and or lighter then allot of people like the cam cans

Metal Jerry CAN (Same Fit As Genuine Part # GJC20) | Land Rover Accessories some think like this i think is what im gonna look at but where/how to mount.. deff dont wanna mount it inside the jeep.

thats the style i have except mine are surplus. from what i understand the new reproductions aren't nearly as good. i would look for some used surplus ones.
like these Gerry Can, Nato, Used Gerry Can, Nato [131901]
i use mounts similar to these

although i would be checking craigslist these are very overpriced you can usually find them between free and $20

oh and don't forget the fill spouts. for the cj i like using a Transmission funnel with a hose coming out to fit in the fill spout and some para cord and s hook to keep it upright

i have an army/navy store at the end of my road. im gonna pop in and see if they got any laying around

$AMC 150 for a mount!!

That smittybuilt one I've seen and liked a little. Maybe weld it to my tire swing or a plate welded to the swing. And it can lock

Here is a real simple 1, Valley Industries.
It grabs it from the bottom lip and the top handle with a j-bolt with spinner, 1 can each side of tire.

thats my other thing, im trying not to cover the taillamps

Tail lamps are under the cans on the bumper, also have 3rd brake light that goes into the trailer hitch. I got it NOS for $100 so am way ahead of the game, and it is on a 2A so it mounts were it is because of multiple interference points.
Wanted to show you the mounts, you can make them go sideways on a custom setup. And I was wrong they are carriage bolts not J-hooks and the top is drilled for a lock. So to make 2 parts for cheap- bolt & flat bar, or 3 if you can not make a 90* bend, in which case a c-channel.
Going to fab a 2 can/high lift tire carrier for the 7 later this year when I do the frame off, I have a diagram just can not find it at the moment.

I've been think and seeing if I got room between the tailgate and the spare to mount it there and just weld a plate to the carrier. Or off the side of the carrier some how. But the NATO can Is my can choice, little pricey but looks like a very nice can. http://www.jerrycan.com

Yes, they are nice and the NATO cans are based off of the US water cans. The 2 I have (US) have very narrow spouts for ease of pouring, and are ceramic lined.
