JK front seats in CJ7

Has anyone ever mounted new JK seats in a CJ7 and what were the biggest issues? I just got a great deal on a set of seats from a guy that just put some aftermarkets in his rig and I really need new ones.

Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

Are yours broken or just ragged?
If just ragged I suggest you call some trim shops and see what you can do for recovering. $250 for the pair should cover it and you should be able to swing boat vinyl for that if you shop around. If you find a good junk yard swap I sure want to hear about it. Something you don't have to build new support frames for, something that you can set in with out having the wheel drag across your lap. I hunted and hunted and found nothing suitable, the aftermarket seats are all unless you want to take a loan on the house to buy them and I found nothing that would fit the brackets and set comfortably. I found a set of 70’s-80’s Chevrolet work van seats, low back, just like the original seats from my 77 cj5 and had them re stuffed a couple of new springs and covered with fabric I supplied. Total price was about $300 for the pair, less than after markets that did not fit, bolt right into place with no modification to the mounts or slides and they are the color I wanted, at least the color my girl friend wanted.

And then on the other hand what the heck, do you have a torch and welding machine? Have a good go at it and please take lots of pictures.

I was always the one to go out and get seats for this project or that and was always building custom brackets and stuff for the seats, finding that wheneveer you put this seat in that vehicle, there is always trouble. So I stopped and started taking the seats in vehicles and having them redone. I found the money better invested as I always got a better fit and the vehicle always felt better. Somehow this year I went and bought some really killer seats for my CJ5 , then the headaches started again, Iwill be doing that wheel well mod we all just saw Wirenut posted up just to get a good fit. I knew better. then agatn a CJ5 has a lot less room than a CJ7

A little more info..the captive nuts and brackets on the back of the seats are rusted out. I was able to get a set of TJ seats today for $100 bucks and they are in great condition.

So I am in the process of doing the mods required and taking a lot of pictures and will let you know how it goes.

I figure this is my first real project on the jeep besides putting things back together from the PO so let's see what trouble I can get into.

I think the TJ seats were a better buy for you, they are a lot slimmer than the JK seats.

I now have seats and brackets out of a 2000 model wrangler it only took minimal cutting and welding.

I may be going the same way. Tj seats are fairly esay to come by seeing as most Tj owners just buy aftermarket ones with their credit card . How about some tips or a small write up if you can?

Well I just got done with putting the the TJ seats in my CJ7 . Here are a couple photos of the result. I also did document the whole process so if anyone is thinking about it just drop me a line. I love being able to recline the seat and they look really good.
