And good for you both, I was told that if I got a pace maker I would not be able to weld any more (that is bull) and I had to give that a great deal of thought as to if it were worth it.

And they're right; you really should not be welding with a pacemaker. If you're hooked up to a remote monitor, getting too close to the welder will make it go crazy. The Dr. will be calling straightaway! Been through that too...

I like the heavy duty copper with thick rubber tubing not plastic, using cheap cables in the freezing cold is not fun.

I built two sets, a long set for vehicles in a hard-to-get-to place, and a shorter set for normal jumps.. Go to Autozone and buy the heavy duty clamps, then visit your local welder supply store and buy the desired length of "welding" cable.. You'll spend a little more, but they will last a lifetime, and you won't have to worry about decent "amp transfer".. The two sets I have are both over 10 years old, and are as good as the day I built them.. I soldered the "screw fastened" connectors to the wire first for each clamp. Easy to do with a spool of solder and a propane torch..

Strip the insulation, crimp the end and solder the crimping to fill the void remaining from crimping terminal ends to the stranded cable.

FWIW, I disagree about dissing the heat shrink end-treatment because heat shrinking insulation keeps water out.

If you agree that heat shrink end treatment is a bad thing, at least use dialectic grease or something else to minimize water wick and the corrosion soon to follow.
