I would just like to say "thank you" to those military vets on here who served or are continuing to serve our country with pride.

Its sad to go to a 4th of July fireworks celebration, and virtually no one gives our real Independence Day any real thought. Just looking through the crowd, I see less vets, and definitely less of the older generation who generally take more pride in being an "American". In todays world, can we really imagine what it would be like to make the decision to fight an enemy who is on our own soil? The sacrifice for the greater good was incredible, especially knowing the loss and hardships that would come as a result of going to war with Britain.

I know "The Patriot" is virtually a remake of other movies, but my boys and I try to watch it every 4th of July, to try and remember the tone of the time period. In an era of cookouts and fireworks, mixed in with distractions from Iphones and social media, it would be good to take some time to reflect on the sacrifices that occured over 230 years ago that led to the freedoms we currently enjoy.

Today, even if it is just for one day, may we take some time in between burgers and fireworks to truly remember what the founding fathers went through to establish this nation.

Have a blessed Independence Day
