Leaking

Hey guys, I just put in a new gasket that goes between the windshield and the body, and I still have a pretty sizeable leak. It's coming in through the defrost duct. I'm missing that piece of flexible hose that goes between the defrost ducting and the splitter that splits the floor duct from the defrost duct. Is that piece of flexi hose supposed to double as a duct to direct water towards a drain hose?

Did you install the lip of the seal to the outside?Also I've seen people put topper tape on for more thickness.There's also a washer behind the wiper arms.Sometimes it leaks down that lip of the seal on the outside.

I would check the air intake on the cowl. Those are notorious for leaking. It could seem like it is coming from the defrost, as it is directly behind it.

Yeah I did put the lip on right. I guess tomorrow I'll just have to look at it and find it

HAHA yeah the floor wash is nice, but my dash mounted cd player didn't appreciate it as much.

That air duct has a drainage hose over by the battery about 1 1/2".Sometimes it gets plugged

OK yeah thats what I was thinking. And in order for the draining to work I need that flexible piece of duct that goes between the plenum and the defrost ducts. Thanks

No actually you need to see if that hose is plugged.Water and debris enter thru the air grate by the hood.You need the flexduct to make the defrosters work.If you look at figure 24-4500 in the heating and a/c parts diagram on this link you'll see it.It is part#3 if the hose plugs up it will not drain the air distribution duct.That could be where your water is coming in.It's located above the defrost duct.

OK did a little looking today. The hose you were talkin about is clear, but the gasket that seals the flap in that box is warped and lets water in through the vent thats right there above the pedals. But, thats not where I'm gettin my leak from. Where I'm gettin it is the upper defrost vent, see the pic below.

This is where I'm missing the piece of flexible duct. And when water hits the windshield it pours in through that duct, in a totally different place from where that hose you were talkin about drains from

If its coming out there it about has to be the windshield seal.Is your window seal wet on the inside at the bottom by the defroster ducts?I'd try some topper tape on the windshield seal.Its sticky one side and made of foam.Stick it to the bottom of the rubber seal.It'll add another 1/8" maybe enough to seal it if its coming from there.Unless there's a wrinkle or split in the new seal.I know there's a fiber washer on the window frame where the wipers come out that could let water in.If you lower the window there shouls be 2 oblong plugs about 3" long that gives access to the wiper arms.If you take them out and see water in there its coming from the wipers or crack in the frame.If you have a soft top and have holes drilled in the frame to hold it water cold enter there.Either way if the window frame is wet on the inside I wouldn't think it would be the seal.Hope this helps.
