I remember seeing a pic on another forum where the po had broke a bolt holding the pipe to the exhaust manifold and had a c-clamp holding it.

Didn't take any pics, cause one wouldn't be able to see anything, but my CJ came with two engines, one in the front and one in the back (4 cyl) due to the PO saying the engine (in front) had a loud knock and needed replaced. Got it home, pulled the engine out to find all the flywheel bolts loose.

No pic as I do not have the Jeep anymore, but on my 76 CJ5 , the exhaust pipes were stuck to the downpipe with 4 wood screws, duct tape over the wood screws, and a wire hangar wrapped around the duct tape.

I cant talk too much tho, because in my current jeep (79 CJ5) I have a Chevy 400 that had the air pump removed. And without the air pump the alternator is not stable, and vibrates causing the alternator brackets to break. So I got measurements and had 1/4" steel plating welded together to fit where the air pump used to go and bolted it all together. Needed a lot of washers to keep the spacing correct but she works like a charm!! I wont be home for a couple weeks, but I can post a pic of this if you like.

I mentioned earlier that that the PO had used duct tape to hold the shift handle on. Well today I decided to fix it and oh the horrors. The isolator clip had broken so they TAPED it together than wrapped it with more duct tape and then crammed the handle onto the the shifter mount. In the process of doing this they BROKE the shift handle at the base so what do they do, they weld a piece of metal to the shift handle to replace the broken piece. They then wrapped it with, wait for it, MORE DUCT TAPE. Now the only way I can fix this is to use a new isolator clip and DUCT TAPE. I dont have pics of all the duct tape due to the camera battery going south.









Now, does anyone have an extra shifter handle they would like to part with.

lol.. well I will clasify myself as a P.O. cause I fell into the same trap he did. My P.O. had the front disc calipers on the wrong side so they wouldn't bleed for and it took me over a week to figure it out after I had rebuilt the entire front end. No wonder I needed 4" longer brake lines off the frame... the fitting was at the bottom . To make it worse... I swapped em and didn't pay attention to the extra 4" my braided lines had and of course I blew a brake line cruising around.

Also the PO had the brake lines swapped at the MC so the pressure was awesome if you liked rear brakes. Oh.. and he had the smaller master cylinder from the 10 inch brakes instead of the 11X2 which were what mine were.

notice the lines run down to the bottom.... truth be told I didn't even know that was possible.



Perhaps I need to make a CO (Current Owner) thread lol... ah the lessons learned.
