Specifically temp, volt, and fuel.

Have aftermarket Equus temp and volt gauges. Neither work. Volt meter is getting 12V (actually 11.65) at the gauge and has a good ground. But no voltage is showing. Get 500 ohms across the terminals. But I have no idea what it's supposed to be since I can't find any troubleshooting info.

Temp gauge just has the sensor that goes to the intake sensor port, and it's a no go.

I'm guessing both are fried, so I probably should replace them. Anyone have any recommendations for good aftermarket ones? Both of mine are 2".

:)Autometer is my choice.........they so sell a line of 2 1/16" gauges , I personally use there liquid filled gauges....Stewart Warner also continues to sell nice quality gauges also............I'm not one to put a cheap gauge in anything especially a Jeep that is going to see some rough use.

2" is an odd size. With a little bit of filing, you can get a 2 1/16" gauge in the stock holes. Many more choices.

You might want to see if you have your volt gauge hooked up backwards.

Need to know of your temp gauge has an electric sender of mechanical.

These aren't the stock holes so I'm sure the 2 1/16" can be fit in there pretty easily. It's a mechanical sending unit for the temp gauge. On the installation instructions it says to make sure not to kink the sending wire. Pretty sure the PO had eleventy bends in it, most of them tight, so that's probably the problem with that one. The volt meter is hooked up correctly too.

I have the same gauges in my wagoneer and they are junk.

Autometer for me, too. I've got a full set of Autometer Phantom gauges. I love them.

On mechanical temp gauges, it's not a wire, but a flexible tube filled with liquid that expands and contracts with temperature. If that liquid escapes, gauge no worky.

For the volt gauge, if you have power at the + terminal, the - side grounded and the gauge still doesn't work. Bad gauge.

You never mentioned the issue with the fuel level gauge. A lot of problems are caused by the crappy replacement fuel level sending units for CJ's. Or the float has sunk.

I switched to Stewart Warner, no problems.

Not sure what's wrong with the fuel. New gauge and sending unit. Think it's got a short to ground on the fuel sender side because I'm getting 8 ohms. Which should make the gauge indicate full all the time, but it only shows half full. Weird...

auto meter.. get matched sets. If you get electric gauges make sure the senders are from auto meter and are in the ohm range that is required for the gauge.

Did you test the ohm range of the fuel sender? IF your gauge and your sender are not in the right range then your gauge wont work.. or will read wrong. These also a chance that the wire going to the sender is kinked or broke. You could always run a spare wire from the gauge to the sender to verify that the problem is in the wire

I tested the fuel gauge with the sender and it had full range. But I do remember the readings on the gauge itself being a little off from the troubleshooting guide posted on the internet. Next time I have an emptyish tank I'm going to drop it and investigate the fuel level. But until that time I have to keep track of mileage.

I switched to Omix, they work but you get what you pay for. Make sure the gage resistance matches the sending unit. I found out on my 78CJ Jeep had two resistive values that year. Ended up changing the fuel and the temp sending units.
