finally got another cj, an 82 cj5, 3" lift, 32" Buckshots,,new bestop and seats &carpet..304 w/overbore,headers, alum intake and holley with a 270 cam
Since Im going to buy new wheels and tires..I was thinking about a body lift for the 82 CJ5 so I can run a larger diameter tire..anyone put a 4" lift kit in theirs? if so, what will I need to get that doesnt come with the kit?..whats the most difficult part of lifting it I will have..I want to go from 32's to 35" tires..with the 4" lift in the jeep now I have approx 3.5" of clearance at the end of the rear fenderwells..so I will have to put a 4" lift kit in it to maintain that clearance..appreciate any help

If I'm reading this right, your asking about a 4" body lift?
I think most here will agree when I say a 1" body lift is as high as you should go.

Thanks for the reply, it is high enough with the 4" suspension lift for sure as far as comfort goes (getting in and out) and the ride is terrible..maybe a 1" would do the trick ..my main worry is I dont want to hit a bump and drive the tire upward too far..I might, repeat "might" even go to a larger wheel tire combo..I have a 3k budget in that area but I dont want to re-gear

The wheelwells simply aren't big enough in a cj for 35's. You have to trim behind the rear tires and behind the front tires to keep them from hitting.
An easy way is to either run TJ flairs or the Bushwackers to cover up where you trimmed. Using extended bump stops can also help.

Great info ..thanks!..guess I will go with a smaller diameter tire then..as the body is in great shape ..sure dont want to muck it up trimming it..thanks again, I appreciate it

Smart decision in my opinion. I sure wouldn't cut up a body for bigger tires. Go with what will fit and call it a day.

I did a 4" suspesion lift and a 1" body lift with 35's. I have plenty of clearance.

I have installed the Rubicon Express 4.5" Extreme Duty lift on a buddies CJ5 and also on my CJ7 . Both Jeeps are running 35" tires. One has 35" BFG's and the other one has 35" Pit Bulls. Both Jeeps have no body lift and no fender trimming. My CJ7 rides very nice for a lifted Jeep. My buddies CJ5 rides good, but has the short wheel base hop.
