I do wonder if a CJ5 had 44s on. how much time would it spend on it's tires and how much on it's side.

44's on a 5 would be a bit scary, an exciting experience to drive faster than 20 MPH.

Look at my images, my rig is on 38"s, it's a SOA with a 1" body lift, 4" spring lift.;)

Longhorn, I see you did not do any body trimming on this. I am planning a similar set up, using 2.5" OME leaf springs set up as SOA on 37" tires. from what I have gathered, this should net me aroung 8" of lift. Will I have to worry about tire stuffing, front or rear? I do plan on front tube fenders, oh, also going to be running full width axles. I already have most of the plans drawn up, just want to make sure I won't be either too high, or too low.

A lot depends on what wheel & tire package you use.
Mine are 38"X15.50" on 12" wide rims, 37"X13.5" on 9"rims should be easier to deal with.
The tube fenders are cool, that's where the worst issues are on my rig, at the back of the front fenders.
Doing the front spring reversal setup gave me about 1.5" more in the front so I have different shackle height front to rear to make it even out.
I really like the high steering setup & the spring reversal, my Jeep drives like a dream.:D

I have a 9" for the rear, and a chevy 44 for the front. I have not gotten anything started for it yet. Unfortunatley, the front axle is still about 12 hours away, and I am trying to find it a way home :). I am sticking with the 4.10 gears that are in it. I found a gear calculator in another thread on here that gavev me what I am looking for. I was also wondering about that shackle reversal, I am going to be fabbing up my own, so i have been looking at new shackles as well. I didn't realize that the reversal would give it a lift as well. Just another upgrade that a different upgrade causes.

I'm not saying they all do, but that's how mine worked out.

I picked up the BTF kit cheap on CL, someone else's Jeep project gone bad.
Got the rollcage kit & 20 gal. gastank the same place.

Thanks for the heads up, Longhorn. I will be on the lookout for cheap parts. At least I know now that I should be ok with my set up.

I was planning to fab my own too, but I picked up the BTF kit so cheap.
I just couldn't justify it. Besides I really liked the way the BTF kit looked.
I hope it helps to look at their drawings. I do think the shackle reversal helps the highway ride & the high steer solves the bump steer issues, but lessens your wheelwell clearances in the back. Good luck on your project.:chug:

My Jeep learned this the hard way...
Some PO had done a shackle reversal on mine and it rubbed badly on the rear of the front fenders.
I have since learned (after hacking my fenders out) that a proper Shackle Reversal will place the front mount ("the hard mount") about 2" farther forward on the frame, to keep the tire from rubbing the fenders.

That's how the BTF kit works , also I bought the heavy duty steering bracket that moved the steering gear forward to match.;)
