Lifted CJ5 questions

Lifted CJ5 questions
Hey Petescj, your set up looks a little lower in the front then mine, but it could be the picture. What size tires are you running?

Old Dog, yours measures 5" and it's a Superlift spring, that's encouraging news. The guy I talked to at Superlift said that spring would only net 4" from top of pack to the centerline eyes.
Do you currently have a V8 and winch mounted?

My springs are at least prior to 1995. Since my measurments are 5.5", I wonder if it's 4.5" spring?

That was 5" to the top of the spring eye. That would be 4" to the centerline of the eye to the top of the spring.
I do have a 350 chevy and a Warn 9.5 winch, it also has a warn bumper and winch guard.
My lift is 6 years old and has been "broken in" well.

I feel like I am beating this to death.

Old Dog, I had to go back n read the thread again. Your 4" is a true 4" measured the way we were measuring. I rechecked mine again tonight, 5" from spring pack to center line of eyes.
Was there a 5" spring offered in the mid 90's or prior? Maybe mine was customized?

Does anyone know of a spring shop in the Pensacola, Fl. area?

BusaDave, you said yours has a 6" lift? Could you measure yours the way we have been measuring? What brand springs do you have installed?

I have guessed that I have a 6 inch lift. The PO has done a shackle reversal. He welded on spring mounts that hung down from the front of my frame. He also added shackle mounts at the rear of my spring. I am guessing this mounting works out to about 3 inches of lift not counting the springs.
I measured from the center of the spring eyes to the top of the axle and came up with 2.75 inches.
Then one year I broke a front leaf spring and ordered more CJ springs (twice). Nothing ever fit so I called up Alcan Springs. They make custom springs. I gave them my measurements and was told those measurements don't make sense for a CJ so I sent them one of my front springs. The guys at Alcan then told me I had springs from a Scout 800 with a 3 inch lift. Then they made some replacement springs that worked perfectly.
That's my recommendation: call Alcan Springs. Alcan Spring - Manufactures Fine Custom Leaf Springs
They will make exactly what you want. If you say you want springs one inch lower than what you have, that's what you'll get. Yes custom springs will cost more but after reading your thread I'm now thinking that's what you should do. I spent $390 before shipping for 2 springs. These are high quality springs. I am very happy with them.

Thanks for checking Dave. That's what I'm gonna do, send out 1 front and 1 rear spring and have them made. There is no telling what I have now, custom made, someone elses brand w/ added leafs?

That's good. Just make sure you know what you want. Take some measurements. Is the front higher than the back? Do you want everything a little lower. You will get just what you ask for as long as you are specific.
Alcan Springs is a good company. I'm very happy with mine.:D
