Hello all. I am new to the forum here and am looking for your help and knowledge. The wife has agreed to let me get a toy so now I am on the hunt. I have found an 81 CJ5 with the body rusted to :dung:, but the motor runs good and most the mechanical parts seem sound. But, the current owner doesn’t know any of the history of this jeep and I am trying to find out if it’s been hacked together with bits and pieces of less fortunate CJ’s. I have used a VIN decoder to see if all of the original spec parts are there and so far they seem to be. It should have a 258ci motor and a 4 speed manual. It does indeed has both of those. So, now my question is about the axles and Transfer Case . What alxes should it have, and are there any easily identifiable marking to verify they are correct if I crawl under it with a wire brush and some oil/rust remover?
I saw the sticky with the Transfer Case info, but I don't know where to look on the case to verify.
