Looking at a CJ5, need some Vin help

Hello all. I am new to the forum here and am looking for your help and knowledge. The wife has agreed to let me get a toy so now I am on the hunt. I have found an 81 CJ5 with the body rusted to
, but the motor runs good and most the mechanical parts seem sound. But, the current owner doesn’t know any of the history of this jeep and I am trying to find out if it’s been hacked together with bits and pieces of less fortunate CJ’s. I have used a VIN decoder to see if all of the original spec parts are there and so far they seem to be. It should have a 258ci motor and a 4 speed manual. It does indeed has both of those. So, now my question is about the axles and transfer case. What alxes should it have, and are there any easily identifiable marking to verify they are correct if I crawl under it with a wire brush and some oil/rust remover?
I saw the sticky with the transfer case info, but I don't know where to look on the case to verify.
