Looking at an 83 cj with electrical issue please help

I am not new to working on or fixing cars just to the jeep world.
The owner say the jeep starts then just cuts out. He bought a new resistor which he thinks is the problem but has no idea where it goes or where to old one is. Can some one point me in the right direction?

Sounds like fuel delivery to me - I'd start with the cheap and easy - fuel filter. Then proceed to the cheap and difficult - carb rebuild, tank/line clean out.

If the resistor is bad it will start but die as soon as you let the key come back to the run pos.
