And finally a 1981 jeep cj7 258 hardtop
Right now I have my sights set on a 81 CJ7 about 20 miles away. I called about another CJ7 last night. It's a 78 AMC 304 4 speed hard top. The guy said one thing that kinda sticks in my head. "it can be made roadworthy" It has 6 inches of lift, 35 tires and was on a deer lease it's whole life. I think im gonna stick with the other CJ7 I looked at. It's almost stcok except for the aluminum wheels and tires.

I'd go for the stocker and build it the way you want it.

"it can be made roadworthy"
Sounds like a pig in a poke.
What's it going to take to make it roadworthy? A few hundred? A few thousand?
You have got to make sure you know what it would take to get it running and the set up the way you want. There are so may "project" jeeps out there that are half done. Sometimes the owner will say it only needs a new starter and later you find out it's much more. Always assume the worst. If the engine wont start assume it's shot. Sure there are times you may check into the engine and see that the main distributor wire is shot and think to yourself "if I replace that I bet it would start right up". You might be right but then again maybe not. As I said before, assume the worst and don't get caught up thinking it would be so nice it it only took a few minor parts to get it running.
