Main wiring harness assistance needed

1979 CJ7 ... chevy 350 turbo 350 Transmission 203 trafer case.

Wiring is a mess and I am trying to get it figered out... Of course I have located a wiring diagram: http://www.offroaders.com/tech/images/CJ-Wiring-Diagram-1979.jpg I am just having a hard time understanding it. Why can't I find a diagram for just the engine compartment... then just the inside ...



I know there is a guy that sells color coded diagrams... but there has GOT to be some place that has a more detailed diagram out there (or one with a legand)

In my opinion, you are making two mistakes...

1. You don't have a service manual with the legend built into it,

2. You didn't do a high resolution scan (about 300 DPI) and save that scan,

When you save the scan, you can copy it any time you like,
Open it in something like MS Paint,
Then you can color code the wires any way you like,
You can section the diagram any way you like,
At the fire wall connector, the dash/interior, the tail end of the vehicle, ect.

You can also copy your original scan and color code the circuits you are trying to trace, clip out the rest of the harness you aren't working with...

You have to be patient with wiring diagrams.

My problem is I could not read the #'s that was in the diagram of the plug that is on the firewall. There are still some holes in the head of how this all works... but I sure am getting there

Here is what I have found... (excell document is the firewall plug numbers... and on right is the actual exploded #'s that goes with the plug.?.?.)
