I have a "75" CJ5 and I am looking for an "original" hardtop for it. I understand that they were made of metal or aluminum during the 72 through 75 era. I have run across several over the past two weeks of looking. Does anyone know if JEEP used different manufacturers to produce these tops? I have seen at least 3 different looking models for sale. Were they different depending upon which year they were made? Is there one that was better than the others? The one I think I like best breaks down into 8 pieces... top, left door with sliding window, right door with sliding window, left rear panel with window, right rear panel with window, left rear corner, right rear corner, rear hinged door with window.

myers, koeing, and maybe acme were the brands back then. They are heavy.
 
I just bought a 1975 CJ5 and I'm hunting for the same top you're after. I get the impression I might be in for a long search. What was the make of that multi-part top you descrivbed? It sounds like the best that I've seen out there. I've missed out on a few local deals so far. I'm not sure about shipping from the US to Canada, but I'm open to possibilities that will get me into the right top.
 
Do the sun glasses come with the top?

Sounds like you are describing a Meyer top sold by jeep dealers ,although the windows roll up and down rather then slide.The early tops didn't have the little corner windows. Also prone to rust so check closely before buying.
They come up fairly regular and not "rare" by any means.Be sure to get ALL the brackets and hinges and filler pieces . Pros and cons with anything,they are heavy and not easy to remove,but offer security. Mike

I'm not in a position to drive down for a closer look. Blizzards, deep cold and ice storms in my neighbourhood make a trip to Texas sound really nice about now. Throw in delivery and some sunshine with a visit to these chilled parts and we might be able to make a deal.

Ha, not mine. I'm in Arkansas, just remembered seeing the ad on CL.

It was 10 degrees here this morning, so I doubt TX is too warm either.

I'm guessing it's REALLY cold up where you are!
 
My73 came from the dealer with a Meyers hard top as a dealer installed option.

Always felt top heavy so I sold it years ago. Had a rear heater and insulation and was very warm. Kept the heater and went soft top.
 
One on my local(ish) state Facebook swap meet. Metal top and doors for 74 and earlier CJ5 . Looks like it's in good shape. $500, seller is in Mountain Home AR (north central AR near the Missouri border).

My '74 CJ5 came with a Myers hard top and doors- she cleaned up real nice! I was told by the PO (He was the second owner) that it was original to the Jeep. That could be a lot of Huey.

For some reason, the [Insert and Image] is not working for me, but there are pics in my Gabby Gallery.

The door 'handles' must have been switched out at some point. I paid $AMC 150 to try and get some keys made so I can lock her only to have the driver's side keyed. The passenger side can be locked by just leaning over, but so far I have no way of locking the back. :mad:
 
You need a new locksmith. Those are the most basic handles made. mike:)
 
i have a 75 CJ5 with that top and steel full doors that have windows that roll down. not a lot heavier than the fiberglass top i had on my old yj but it is much more flexible, you want lots of help installing it. also they sqeak something awful going down the road. we used to stick a piece of rolled up carpet between the roll bar and the top to quiet it some
