Hi guys,

Im normally not a forum guy but I'm looking to do a pretty serious swap on my 77 CJ5 and wanted some feedback or to see if anyone has done something similar.

I currently have a Mopar 340 from a 72 dart sport and an ax15 that I want to swap in my cj. My research has told me that I need the Dakota bell housing to mate them and the Dana 300 will give me the passenger side drop for the front driveshaft.

My concern is overall length when it comes to rear driveshaft. I currently have a 2.5 inch lift with a Dana 44 in the rear... I'm happy with the lift size but wouldn't mind going to 4 inches maybe.

I'm hoping the extra length of the ax15 and Dana 300 will be made up with the shorter engine but I haven't made hard measurements yet.

Any advice or input is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Short output on the Dana 300

I have everything Jbconversions makes for the Dana 300 awesome stuff

I would love to see your conversion done, it’s hard to get manual Transmission stuff for mopars

I know the Dakota had an NV something I think that’s the bellhousing your talking about just make sure you get it from a V6 or V8 and a good idea to grab flywheel as well

I’m not sure on your total length but the short output should help a lot

Thanks for responding. I'm not real good at using forums so I wasn't sure if I posted in the right category.

If I've read correctly the short output has an unchangeable speedo gear.

If I'm going with digital gauges am I correct to assume I could avoid that problem with a speedometer that allows speed correction internally?

The super Short output from Novak has a digital speed sensor for a digital speedometer

The JB conversion output uses stock speedo gears

Nice thanks for the info... That should allow me to gain a few more inches of driveshaft than I expected. This is going to be a long process. I'm just in the planning and parts aquisition phase right now but I'll try to keep this post updated with pictures as things progress.
