Weeks ago I ordered a set of Speedhut gauges from Amazon. Amazon shipped most small gauges very quickly, but they ordered the Programmable Speedometer directly from Speedhut. I needed a cable that wasn't shipped so I called Speedhut directly. They could ship the cable, but the Speedometer was delayed since they make each gauge to the customers specs and to their laser cutter was down for at least another week. So, I took advantage of that fact and upgraded the speedometer from a 3 3/8" to a 4" with turn signal and high beam lights in the face.

Finally the Speedometer arrives and instead of it being a programmable unit for ~$195, it is a GPS unit. The GPS gauges are cool with lots of little electronic gadgets built into the display and cost $299, about $100 more than the programmable unit. Unfortunately I wanted the programmable unit with no loss of signal and instant on just like a regular mechanical unit.

So, I find myself at a cross roads. Do I call and send it back to wait for them to send another or if given the option would it be smarter to keep the GPS gauge and live with a few seconds worth of start-up (finding the satellites) delay and the occasional loss of signal (in tunnels and parking garages).

This is easy, keep what you originally wanted and paid for.
First, call them and make sure they didn't charge you an extra $100
Second, if they didn't charge you more have them send you postage paid label to send back the gauges you didn't order.
More gadgets more possible problems

Never mind, I called and they took it back right away. I had a momentary thought that they might say, "For the trouble you've had, you have the option of keeping the unit you have or sending it back." No such luck, besides I do like the idea of keeping my data gathering on the ground inside my vehicle. ...... Besides, I'm sure the government keeps track of vehicles through GPS tracking. They know enough about everyone of us already. .... .... I know they don't track GPS units, THEY TRACK GROCERY CLUB CARDS. .... and web sites .... and phone calls ..... and what I watch on TV ..... and my airplane miles ...... and Hey there are those drones ..... .... .... Okay, I'm feeling better now .... Maybe by calling I passed one of their tests ..... Anyway, the new speedometer should be here tomorrow.

By-the-way, I was always going to call them. I'm simply not cut out to be dishonest, even when it has the potential of hurting me.

Keep a close tab on your CC bill. ;)

They sent me a new revised bill way back when I upgraded to the 4" speedometer. When I called they were like OMG I wonder who ordered a GPS unit and got a programmable one instead. Now they are asking me to take a picture of the back of the unit I got to make sure I didn't get the wrong additional packaging (GPS antenna and instructions). There are no marks to show it which model it is, just wire bundles hanging out the back.

Ahhh the mystery seems to be solved. The programmable speedometer should have a pink wire bundle hanging out the back and the one I got does have a pink wire bundle. So the speedometer is the correct one. They simply put in the wrong accessory package. It seems like it would be wise for them to mark or tag the model number on the speedometer case. .... still waiting for the correct accessory package though.

Just a 'heads-up' is all;)
What they bill'd you-And what the charg'd your CC may not be the same.;)
Look how they screwed up the order.
I just went through this CC deal with a screw'd up order for reloading supplies.

:) Yeah, it could have like the above. But, like I said, I would have called (I actually called before the op, but they left me on hold for a crazy amount of time, then when I left a message they didn't call me back, so a few hours later I called them.) anyways. Treating a company right has always been the best route for me.

After they wrote telling me that I had to take a picture of the back of the Speedo, while I was at work, I did tell them that I was getting frustrated and THEY need to take a picture of both and I'll let them know which one I have. In the end I did have the correct speedometer with the wrong accessory's. I'm definitely not the first to experience this. One of the Speedhut reviews said that they sent the wrong gauge.

All seems well though. Last night I drilled and chamfered the holes in my gauge plate. Standard 5 gauges found in a CJ, 2 light switches, 1 E-locker switch and light, 3 power stations (cig. lighters), ignition switch. I like the technical, but not too technical look of the thing.

Now to finish the dash. Minimum body filler and paint. Body filler makes me nervous with the flexi-ness of the dash panel. At least before its installed. In place with built in stresses the dash is fairly solid.

HH-On that 'flexy' dash. I would be use'n lead for filler. ;)
Look'n forward see see'n the dash when done :chug:

Grits - Hmmmm lead, more heat, that's just what I need since the heat from welding in a few PO drill holes made the filler necessary in the first place. It's taken a considerable amount of grinding, heating, pounding and heat shrinking to get it close to where it needs to be right now.

Weld heat(RED HOT+)and the heat to lead fill are the same as apples are to onions.:D
