Having quite a bit a issues with my 1979 AMC 304 lately. Recently the AMC 304 is hard starting and idles rough. Seems to be no vacuum leaks. I was thinking about rebuilding the Motorcraft 2100 carb but I see a little wetness on the outside of the carb at the throttle shafts. Is there a kit for the shafts also or just buy a remanufactured one like here....all info is appreciated........
Buy United Carb Remanufactured Carburetor 10-10047 at Advance Auto Parts

They do sell bushing kits for most carbs but sometimes you have to replace the throttle shafts. In my experience you'll be way ahead by getting a reman/new carb. I think summit offers new ones for about that price (holley).

If the shaft was a problem I think it would show up as a vacuum leak.

Maybe it's time to do a clean and kit in the 2100, just depends on what you are up to. I don't think I would do bushings with out some pretty precise machinery, if in fact that is a problem I would find another carb.

Holly 2 bbl is a good carb and the same basic design as the MC Main jets and parts available in lots of places.

It's all about the money as far as I can see.:D

Honestly, $216 isn't a bad price for a remanufactured MC2100 with a warranty. If you were to go on ebay, buy a MC2100 that's in good shape you're going to spend $100 to $AMC 150 anyway, plus a rebuild kit, you're looking at $AMC 150 to $175.

I like the MC2100, it's simple, it's easy to work on, and it's reliable. I think IO is definately correct, once the shaft seals start going, you're better off either have your carb remanufactured, or getting another one.

Now, if you can pick one up from a PYP for $35 and spend $25 on a carb dip and $15 on the kit.

An even better budget option
