OK, so I've gotten some 3 point belts from a YJ that I am looking to mount into my '80 CJ7 . My question is in regards to mounting the retractor (?) in going from a horizontal mounting (CJ) to a vertical mounting (YJ). Has anyone made a bracket to mount it this way? What I have come up with is a long angle bracket that it will both bolt to & engage the hook thing behind the belt reel. Not sure that this is necessary or how it is done originally & I don't have access to a YJ to reference. I've included a rendering of what I have drawn up. The yellow part is the brace in the CJ tub that the stock seat belt bolts to. I've already made my inserts for the sport bar & they are ready to weld in. Any input from anyone who has already tackled this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Ill be working on my yj on Monday if you want to let me m ow what you need for reference dimensions. Or pics. I know the retractor has to be spot on of else it will not extend.

Thanks for the reply. Pics would be fine, just need a general idea of how they should mount. I've noticed how they have to be oriented just playing with them. Pretty touchy.

So I made my roll bar inserts & mounting brackets & thought I would share some picks that show how I went it. The first pick is of the inserts that I made to go in the roll bar. They are about 3/4" in diameter & 2-3/4" long. I tapped them 7/16"-20 about 1" deep & drilled them completely through as they are on the YJ bar that I have. View attachment 14298
Next shows them in the bar, ready to be welded. View attachment 14299

The next photo shows the brackets I made to mount the YJ seat belts before powder coating. View attachment 14301

(Please excuse my rusty welding skills, it'll hold, just not very pretty)
