sorry for the confusion, the "whats it worth" post was copied from craigslist and i was just wondering what people thought it would be worth since i am considering buying it. i'm not trying to sell it. thanks.

I see what happened. You saw a Craigs List ad and posted it to get our opinion. Problem was everyone thought the craigslist ad was yours. I say make a new thread but here's a tip. If you copy and paste an ad or any other information that is someone elses words use the quote feature.

Then you post something like this:
I saw and ad that says:
I have a freshly rebuilt (0 miles) AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l inline 6-cylinder Jeep engine for sale or trade for something of equal or greater value. I was having it rebuilt for my '83 Jeep CJ7 Renegade but I ended up selling my Jeep "as is" before the motor was done to do the motor swap. So, I have this rebuilt engine that is just going to collect dust unless I sell it or trade it for something else that I could use. The head is completely rebuilt......has new valves, springs, guides and seals. It also has a new timing chain, new rod & main bearing, new rings, new oil pump, all new gaskets, new exhaust manifold, the cam was cleaned up, new lifters, fresh oil & filter and it has new spark plugs. It is on an engine stand at my friend's house and you can hear it run before you buy it. This motor is ready to drop in, hook up & go!

Then ask "What do you guys think?"

Personally I would pay more for an engine with 10K miles on it than a fresh rebuilt. Too many people putting things together that don't really know what they are doing and I include engine shops in that catagory. But that may not be the case hear, I don't know.

The add does say you can hear it run so that is a plus. As far as the value, $1500 or $1600 seems fair but I would want to see his receipts that should total more than that.

Another thing to consider is how complete is it? Power steering pump, alternator, and all that will help add to the value.

You're not that far away from Boston--check the Boston craigslist site. I believe there's one on there now with a rebuilt head for $200. Saw another one recently, completely rebuilt, for $300 or $400.

Sheesh--thought you were in CT! (I blame the pain meds.)
