I bought my first Jeep this weekend. It needs a little love, but the AMC 304 runs very well and the 3 speed is amazing. Really enjoying the driving experience so far. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here. Thanks!

Nice 5 what year?

You live in a great state for Jeep fun. Looks like a good start.

Nice Colorado 5!
Sure looks like a '76 with those extra indentations in the quarter panels above the rear wheel openings. Maybe early '77s had those too, but later '77s did not. Interesting.
Regardless, it looks nice. Hopefully it's rot-free. I'm just down the road in Castle Rock and have access to CJ parts if you need something. Have fun!

Thank you! That is interesting. The title says 1977, but that's all I know.
Luckily, this one is rot free, it lived most of its life in Pueblo.
I'm currently trying to get it to pass emissions. It barely failed the first time, but I suspect that was because of the old gas etc. that was in it from last year with the previous owner.
So far, I've ran the fuel injector cleaner through a tank, changed the gas cap, new fuel filter, new oil filter/oil and I'm cleaning the air filter today. Hopefully it'll pass this time!
I'll let you know about parts, I know they'll come up, thank you!

If you're doing all that might as well change out the plugs wires cap rotor etc etc

The previous owner actually changed all of those out last fall before winter, he just didn't get to the fluids (said he changed those last spring, but didn't drive it more than 100 miles last year). Do you think I should still go ahead and get new ones still?

@MtnMarine
Have you run your VIN through our VIN Decoder to see what your CJ was built as?

:tu: If you wish to learn more about your CJ components, click on any image or description and it will take you to the correct Jeep-CJ.com Wiki page. :)

Either it's an early 77 or the body has been swapped (happens quite often in rust states). Either way, it's a good looking 77! :chug:

So, I went out to inspect everything to see if I could find anything showing a year. Upon further examination, the vin plate on the dash actually has "1976"very faded next to date. However, the Vin on the same plate says J7....indicating a 1977.

Welcome to the 40+ year old CJ world. They probably had a left over 76 on the assembly line and punched it as a 77. This was not uncommon for all auto Mfgs back then (and even now). They had to get rid of inventory as necessary.

Welcome to who knows what you gots, but enjoy it just the same as you would any fine thing you love ! :chug:
