My weekend/week project

Noticed the smell of gas the other day after filling up my CJ7 and a small puddle of gas under the tank in the driveway! (here we go the dreaded fuel tank drop! So i bit the bullet and siphoned the tank and dropped if. Discovered it was the rubber grommet that holds in the rollover check valves they were old and dry rotted. So I ordered a new set. While I wait for those to arrive I decide to clean the tank inside and out. It is the factory 20 gal poly tank. I have been having issues with my fuel gauge it wont really read below 1/2 tank so i figured while I have the tank out lets pull the sending unit and check it. After some head scratching I realized it was the wrong sending unit, it was for a 15 gall tank not the 20 I have. This is why the fuel gauge wont read. So I figured since I have a few days until the parts arrive I would fix the 2x2 inch rust hole at the bottom of my gas tank skid plate I put down a piece of sticky roofing tar then covered and welded in a patch piece I then melted the tar by heating up the metal as well as melting tar around the seam. I then wiped the skid plate down real good with some MEK and painted the whole thing with chassis saver ( this stuff is amazing). So I sit here sharing my experience with you while I wait on a new sending unit (20 gallon) and paint to dry
until the next issue arises.
