In a frame off rebuild for a long time...
this one is driving me crazy

I have no number one button, the HD fried and replaced with a way too small one, and now the screen keeps fuzzing out unless i hold pressure on the top and twist the screen a certain way. my hand is killing me

to make matters worse, it's the only internet access i have while i'm on deployment

any recommendations on a decent fast laptop around $1000? and where to buy?

i saw this one, whats the opinion on it?

OpenDNS
they advertise one similar to this for $1075, but its not on the website.

That laptop certainly has allot going for it. Mostly the amount of ram and the Radeon video chipset. MSI is a not a well known laptop manufacturer but are a decent motherboard and video card maker. It has allot of good reviews but the biggest fault I see is support is not that great. That is where buying a HP or Dell becomes a factor.

Now, what would I recomend? Just like asking a CJ owner if a 5 is better then a 7... You can get all kinds of answers so I'll just say this... I have owned HP, Dell, Toshiba, Gateway and Alien Ware. They all have had problems and they all have been good laptops. I know others that have had the worst time with all the brands I mentioned. I'm typing this response on a Gateway right now... I'd like to replace it though...

There really is no right or wrong choice. It really comes down to budget and features.

For a $1000 you should be able to get a pretty nice laptop. I always go for performance over features though, I look for the ones with more ram and faster processors instead of the built in webcams and fingerprint readers...

Do you want to buy local? What stores do you have in your area?

LOL its 2 hours to the nearest Best Buy back home. I don't mind buying online, I hardly ever buy/use a service plan anyways. I don't need another webcam, I have 2 already.
I look for speed and memory also. But buying the new laptop will be taking a big chunk of the CJ budget too. :( so cheaper is better, as long as the specs are there.

BTW - When I shop computer hardware I always check Amazon and Newegg. Amazon usually has reviews from non-techno geeks and Newegg has the geeks... When you combine all the reviews it is usually a good representation of the general public.

If you don't need such a big screen, this MSI laptop has a good review on both Amazon and Newegg and IMHO, a better graphics card while only a .3 GHZ drop in processor power. And on Newegg it is $80 less then Amazon...

I know how you feel... Everything is a good drive for me also. I am an online ordering fiend!
Extended warranties are a waste of money. Statistically, items are more likely to show a defect under the manufacturers warranty...

not yet...between working my behind off at work (12-13 hr days nearly non-stop) and fighting with this POS, I havent had time to look around. I like the newegg one, and may go ahead and buy it. but it will have to wait till the end of the month anyways.
