That's awesome! Glad to hear this worked out the way it did...seems to me that it's in the right hands now as it should be. Good luck with it.

well i was able to acquire the M38A1 for the grand total of $0! after not being able to come to agreeable terms with my cousin, my grandmother called me and told me that she had the title in hand and would be towing the jeep back to my fathers house until i could have it shipped to me. family is in South Dakota, i'm stationed in Jacksonville, FL. Apparently my cousin owed her money and she wanted me to have it. So now my search will begin for old surplus parts to make her look like an army jeep again.

Its like a bed time story that gives me warm fuzzies!

Its great to hear the good stories about the things that are meaningful to us to help out-weigh all the negative in this world.

What a blessing!:notworthy:

well the jeep has been delivered to my dad's house in south dakota. He drove it around for a couple days before parking it in the barn. I just ripped apart my 81 CJ5 for a complete resto which I'm hoping to have done by next summer(i'll start a build thread as soon as i get some time). So until then, the M38A1 will have to wait. But I'm relieved to have it in my possession.

not much of an update, but thanks for all the good words guys.

106mm recoiless rifle is why the windshield is split. the barrel laid down in the slot during transport. Rifle had a 6 mile range. Would be cool to find a demilled one and mount it for those trips to town for groceries.

found a few demilled 106s after i read this post, unfortunately they're in the $10K range. definitely a bucket list item though

It would make an awesome conversation piece and cool addition to a veterans day parade.

Been to some WWII re-enactment shows. The guys had non-functioning replicas they had made and mounted. Also saw on some classic car resto TV program where they did something similar.

God bless your Grannie for helping you out with the title and such.
If rust has made any foothold address it before proceeding on your '85 Increasingly there's no OE parts for these classics.

justinfonder,
You did very well, all parts are available as NOS, used or rebuilt. Suggest you join MVCCF (Military Vehicle Collectors Club Florida)
FYI, that windshield was sold to Canada in mass numbers, but most were converted to standard 2 piece or 1 as in CJ5 making it rare, the really rare one would be off a MD M38A1 Recon with the fold out window like the MB, GPW & CJ2a .
I was #309 MVCCO with my `52 first issue Marine Corps A1 w helicopter front & rear bumpers, I love the reverse shackles, got it for $200 and it was a basket case, with the engine setting in the back w Transmission Transfer Case , it had a tail gate due to the back body being broke (broke pistons trying to remove from engine) . Bought all the parts, manuals, parts manuals, paint, wipers, 24V parts, everything, rebuilt the Transmission , Transfer Case , regret giving it to Mac`s Jeeparts for storage fees on my other Jeeps. I know it has USA on the hood, but it was painted over, it came from Korea, Camp Pendleton, CA, Portland, OR than to me. I was going to make mine Battle Field restored not pretty just issued restored. Good luck goes with you, your Grandfather is watching over you.
You have a lot of deCJ-5ing to do, sell parts or trade for Mil. All later CJ`s came from this. Keep the pictures coming.
I thank you.
And I thank your Gramma.
