Ok im going to look at it tomorrow. Its a 79 CJ7 with a AMC 304 that was rebuilt a few years ago. 400 auto tranny. it runs and shifts great. needs a few seals and a rad. overflow but nothing major. Only problem is body rust. I can get the fenders and hood pretty cheap but may have to patch a few other places. frame looks ok from the pictures i have seen. just wanted to know what yall thought from the pics? what would be a fair price? thanks guys! hope to own another cj soon!

it dont look to bad hows it run everything work
tops I would go is 3500. if all checks out but Im sure you could weasel them down a little

Thanks man. He says it has strong oil pressure and will pull straight as an arrow running up a slight hill going 70mph. so sounds pretty good to me. Im ready to have a new project I have been itching for a while

Please don't take it personal but I would Run as fast as I could away from the thing, The cost of repairing it will go thru the roof!
If you really really got to have it I would not go a dime over $1500. Do some math on what a tub gona cost and the work to install plus many many unknowns.

You guys really think its that bad? The tub is the only thing I was going to try to patch up... It did not seem that awful to me??? Im not trying to build a show truck just something nce looking to knock around in on sundays...

A lot of rust and maybe some wiring issues under the hood and dash. I'm with Sasquach on this one. A project is one thing but the body work alone will drive you nuts. If all the drive train checks out good, it might be worth the $1500 mentioned above. I know it's hard to wait especially with the weather getting better but if you are going to put your money down, make sure you will be happy with what you get. They all need work, it just depends on what you want to put your time and money into. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Well I tried but he will not go any lower than 2k.... I checked at certifit and I can replace the hood and fenders for 250. So for 2250 I will have to deal with the tailgate and patching the tub. Does not seem so terrible to me:wtf: but keep the opinions coming please!!

I'd be worried about what was under that diamond plate.
It's hard to put a price on jeeps. It varies so much on what part of the country you live in. Here in the rust belt it looks pretty good, but out west it's a rust bucket.
Check out the market in your area, and go from there.;) Just remember that jeep stands for "just empty every pocket"

Did I see the frame flaking under there in places?
thank God for west coast desert Jeeps.

If you are gonna get it just hunt down a yj tub while you wheel that thing. Can probably find a shot 4banger and snatch the springs and tub off of it.
Doubling your money not including labor, but You would be happy.
PS- That is a pretty cool hard top on there

This sounds pretty fair. What type of wheeling are you doing? The full time
4wd on that year is a major gas hog. Many dont come with low range for the quadra trac Transfer Case either but it can be bolted on at a later date. Id look for a 82 and up find one with a T-176 Transmission or the auto and youd have a better building platform.
If you really really got to have it I would not go a dime over $1500.

That body is junk. The frame may be a good donor for a new body, but that one is completely shot. When you see cowl rot, you're done. And I would hate to see what the under side of that windshield frame looks like. I would keep looking unless he would take in the 5-800$ range, provided everything else is good, and you wanted to get into a frame off restore with a NEW body.

And this one would be probably no wheeling at all. Just to goof off around town in. Figured I could ride it like it is until winter then begin to tear into it and fix it bit by bit. Usually they are not bad about rust around here. So im going to scratch this one and hunt for a better deal. Thank you for your help...

From what I can see, you're making a good decision. Some Jeeps are just too far gone to allow for a reasonable fix, and need a full, time and money pit reman. I wish you good luck in finding a better deal ASAP, Keep us informed on how it goes!

Like CW said looks like your making the right choice. Post up the next one you think about and we'll go again. No one was trying to be critical of your choice but a lot of us have learned the hard way. :D If your in a area where rust usually isn't the norm then your definitely making a good decision.

Good decision. Since it is after hunting season jeeps are popping up all over for sale in great condition in the 3500+ range which is alot less than you woulda had in that guy. You'll thank yourself for waiting

Thanks to all for the advice I am very very happy with my decision. I am looking at one now its a 1984 CJ7 6cyl automatic solid no rust except a little surface by one of the seats so about as clean as one gets. Ha so we will see how the numbers work out...

LOL around here it's starting to get warm, so everybody thinks their topless rusted out jeep is made of gold.:D
