1963 Willy's CJ5. Original engine replaced with Buick 225ci V6 (not sure if endine is '67 or '69). It has a t-98 4speed trans, 1968 Chevy steering column, 1970 Ford steering box, and a gun rack between the front seats! Also has PTO winch.
Hi all, first let me give you some background. I bought a '63 Willy's CJ5 from my father in law to help him out with some financial problems. He had restored the Jeep that has been in my wife's family since it was new. He lived in another state and unfortunately, before I could go see him and learn about the Jeep he passed away. I have the Jeep now and would like to replace the carburetor. I am not a car guy so this all new to me! I know the original engine was replaced with a Buick 225ci V6, but I do not know the year of the engine...I think it is '67 or '69. It currently has a Rochester 2 Jet on it. I have a friend who is a Porsche mechanic and he said the carb is leaking and there is a problem with where the idle screw is, (it is sliding past something it is supposed to rest on) so my engine keeps dying when I stop. I had the carb re-built right after I had it shipped to me but obviously, there are still some problems. I thought I could just go to JC Whitney and order a new carb, but the one they sent doesn't have the same base as what is on there, even though their website said it fits all engine types for the '67 and '69. Can anyone tell me where i can get a carb? Thank you!

Post up some pictures of the carb and intake if you can.

Perhaps the intake was changed from original on the engine.

And :ww:

Thanks for responding to my post. I have a few pictures...hopefully they will help. The first is (obviously) a view from the top. You can see toward the bottom left it says 2 Jet with Rochester underneath. The second and third are views from each side. The fourth is a sticker that is on the front of the carburetor. There is also a number stamped on the throttle linkage that says RP 25518. I don't really have a picture that shows the intake manifold very well. I will have to work on that.

Sounds to me like you don't have much wrong with the one you have. Seems a shame to replace it, if there's not much wrong with it. Can you get somebody to check it out for you?

Had the carb rebuilt in Dec. Still leaks and the idle still has problems. Not sure what else to do but replace.
