How's it going everyone! I know there is a plethora of knowledge in this community and is my reason for coming here. I have an 82 CJ7 that the PO installed a 360 from a grand wagoner. The engine ran before. I did a complete tear down to the frame and built it back up. Now here is my issue for those still reading. Engine will crank but no start. I have 12v to the + coil. Now here is where I am lost. The harness appears to be from the wagoner. I have two plugs, one that has three connectors shapes like a smiley face that plugs into the distributor. And one 4 pin connector that has nothing to plug into??? The 4 pin has the green wire that has 12v from the coil + and to the ICM, it also has an orange, purple and black wire. The 3 pin connector only has orange, purple and black. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get this beast back to running again. Thanks in advance for all help. :)

Sounds like you need a wiring diagram to trace down your rewire job. You should be able to find one online or in a repair manual. Good luck with that.

Thanks for the quick reply torqx. Prior to begging for help on here I scoured all the sources I could trying to find something helpful with no luck. So waking up in a beaten down mood I said oh well and went to msd online and ordered the 6a module, cap and wires, and plug adapter! After all the hype on the the team rush upgrade I figured it was the route to go :chug: on the other hand I've found a sweet deal on a fairly new 5.3 with everything needed for cheap, just need the jeep running to go pick it up :bang:

My local Napa was able to test ignition coils. First test the resistance in between the + and - on the coil and the + and coil output to the distributor (secondary resistance. The primary resistance should be between 1-2 ohms and secondary in the 8-12k ohm range depending on coil. Alternately you could test the coil yourself by taking the wire to the distributor off and trying to get an arc on the engine block somewhere. I know how to do this because my coil just crapped the bed. Apparently Napa had never had a coil that wouldnt fire. I guess every other one gave off some sort of spark, even if it was weak.
