Need help picking the right trans.

Hey guys and galls. I need some info- on the right Transmission to put in my 82 CJ7 . I have the stock T-4 , and just put in 4.88 grears. And the Wife'ies gonna kill me, If i can't find a way to be able to drive on the freeways to. I can only go around 45 before it starts to screem. I hear that the T-5 isn't all that good. But i need another gear. Is there a Mustang Transmission that will work ? Or what ? Oh and I have 34/10.50/15 Super Swampers on know, but putting back on BFG 35s. and i'm only going to be 4x4 on modert to semi-extreem. not full board.If anybody could help, that would be great!

I run with a couple of people with the T 5 tranny and have never seen either one give any problems. Also, It's a direct fit. No modifications needed.

Id look into an AX-15 from a Wrangler. Will bolt up to your motor with no issues. its a readily available 5 speed medium duty and your Dana 300 will bolt up also. You may however need a clock ring, Ive never put the 2 together in a stock CJ configuration but can tell you the bolt pattern is correct along with the 23 spline input

Only 45mph?? According to some gear calculators 60mph in 4th should put you at 3135 rpms.. higher then you want to be but thats at 60. could there be something else thats keeping you from reaching speed? How did you calculate you speed?

You may have more gear then you need for those 34" tires.

An Over drive Transmission should drop you down to 2300 rpm NP4500 or 2400 Rpm Ax-15

Also make sure you either gps your speed or change your speedo gear to match your new tires and gears.
