Need opinions on this CJ7.

I am going to look at this CJ7 tomorrow and want to know your general opinions based off of the info given. Being an original survivor with low miles I think if I get him down a bit, this could be worth a lot more if I fix the few issues such as the fender, bumper, seats and new carpet. Beyond that it appears to be pretty solid especially from New England. So what do you think?

1986 Jeep CJ7 Laredo ,
5 speed , AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I6
2nd owner since it rolled off the showroom floor.
Completely unmolested, no rot, (Z barred undercoating from the dealership when new)
no major rust.
Frame and chassis are complete and original. (The tub is in great shape). Never repainted.

59k original miles total on everything, Matching numbers Drive train.
Main bearings, rings, head (valve train) all refreshed approx. 20k miles ago.
Original interior , (back seat missing)
Comes with the hard & soft top.(Soft doors as well)
Some misc small parts as well (new oem steps , misc knobs, etc)

Asking 8500 or best offer.

Seems suspicious based on engine comments.
59,000 miles, but all this engine work performed. 20,000 miles ago.
So at 39,000 total miles, the engine was rebuilt ? and why ?
Buyer beware, something fishy.

Dude! - When I first read the post, I thought man, 8500 sounds like a lot for a CJ when the seller states "no major rust". That usually just code meaning a bowling ball won't fall thru the floor...... But unless the rust is hidden somewhere, that thing is gorgeous. Fix the fender, clean up the floor boards, and have another back seat reupholstered to match, and you would have a real beauty. I would check under the roll bar feet behind the seats - a very typical source of rot. I'm afraid after looking at the pics, you may not have much room to haggle. Good luck!! I did think about the motor but i know some people will feshen up an old motor just because it sat for a long time. I plan to dig a bit more and ask questions about that.

If you feel comfortable with the answers you get about the engine that last year Laredo is a nice find. Bummer about the fender though. I'd imagine it'll be tough to color match a paint job that's 30+ years old.

Still a really sweet looking Cj for the area. Be prepared to have to redo the whole underside. You easily have the skills to pull this off though. Your not fooling anyone , we've seen your work. That rear seat is gonna be a little tough to find. It's a gold and tumble Laredo seat. If you want it correct it may cost a little more than you think.

I agree finding that fender will be hard with original paint and graphics can be replaced. I do not want to paint it if there is no bubbling. That window frame even look original with only one rib. I will know by tomorrow at 8am.

I bought the Jeep this morning. Got him down a few thousand and he threw it a bunch of NOS parts like steps, factory tach, clock and bumperettes. Also comes with a newer full soft top. The motor has an hei and weber and he kept the stock items. This is a nice solid and super clean frame and body. It never saw winter. It was a sumner Jeep for cape cod most of its life and was never a daily driver.

Thanks. Tuesday is the day. He needs to go to storage to grab his NOS parts first. A bunch of cleaninf and minor work will make this a nice driver.

As for the fender...... If your luck runs a lot better than mine, you may get lucky and find an OEM fender in the same color........ stranger things have happened. Worst case would be have it painted to match. A GOOD body shop could match the original color pretty dang close. If you plan on buffing out the rest of the Jeep, do that prior to any color matching.

The decals are a whole nuther story. Even if you found a same color fender with Laredo striping, the fade factor will almost definitely be different. I would be real tempted to re-decal it. Remove the decals, buff, then add new decals. Phoenix Graphics can hook you up.

And your front seat isn’t even cracked....... most impressive

The driver seat is ripped on the left. I thought same for graphics. Just remove them buff the stock paint and add new ones. I hope to find a red fender but any factory fender rust free will most likely do.

It doesnt have the plaque and i am bummed no Dana 44 either. I am on facebook. Matt bourque in ct. I am on a few groups and plan to reach out to them but i will take any help from this group i can get. I think the fender will be very hard to match but the rest should be easy. Great looking CJ and at a great price.
I guarantee I'll have as many $$$$$ tied up in mine before it's said and done and "probably" won't be in as good of shape as what your starting out with.
