I currently have a tilt that has come loose. the wheel has as much play as the entire tilt. Itll be easier on me to just get a new steering column then rebuild what I got. Anyone know where I can get a new one that doesnt tilt for a good price?????

When I swapped my straight column for a tilt, the tilt mechanism had quite a bit of slop in it. I invested a Saturday afternoon and pulled the steering wheel and broke down the column to get to the tilt section. Cleaned, greased and tightened everything down like it ought to be and everything has been great ever since. It wasn't a difficult job (cheap too!) and I was done before it got dark!

Providing you don't have anything missing or broken, it's not uncommon that your tilt's mechanics are sloppy. They may only need torqueing down.

I cant get down to the 4 bolts that are loose behind the tilt mechanism. Plus if I go with a none tilt l'll never have this problem again...Its not my tilt that has slop, its the actual steering wheel. The tilt is as tight as you can get it.

A Cherokee (small) or Comanche column will pretty much slide right in. wire is pretty much plug and play. Trick is to find one with a key in it.:D

It is pretty much just a GM column but if you take one from a Cherokee it says Jeep on the wheel.

I pulled the column from a 87 GMC 1/2 ton, swapped the lower steering shaft from the Jeep column into it, I think it cost me a total of $60.00.
The bonus is it moves the dimmer switch from the floor to the column.

and the wiper control from the dash to the column as well.:D

I have a buddy about to start parting out an '81, I can see what he would sell the column for if your interested. This would come from Houston, TX.

OK, from what I can remember froma over 5k build.
Cam,
Head work, Springs, rev kit, steel crank, headers, forged pistions and rods, all high compression parts(this thing can be a pain to spin over even with m big battery), valves, carb, intake, electronic distb, flywheel...man i just got to find the list.
