Original 86' CJ 7
I came across a Ford Motor today. It has the fuel injection system still mounted along with alternator headers etc. I don't have any history of this motor as of yet. The parts I'm interested in appear to be pretty clean. My Question?

I have a 86 CJ7 inline 6 (AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ) with the carter bbd carb. Engine runs really strong - If I could ever get this thang dialed in ... Just finished rebuilding carb and did the nutter bypass. I will go through the wiring tomorrow to double ck myself. (No emissions) so I would really love to clean up the engine bay. I have researched, Posted here but really can't get any clear answers regarding -----what to toss and what to keep?? I have the books and read numerous detailed links but they all seem to be saying the same thing. I want to simplfy this CJ7 as much as possible, without getting stupid to ease the trouble shootn. I'm over pulling a hose one by one..
SORRY----

Back to my find/motor....Is it possible to mount this fuel injection system to my exsisting motor. I know enough to be dangerous with motors.
It's got to easier than dialing in this finicky fuel system I've got now.
Here the #'s off the Ford engine that were visable
Block# E-TTG-14A2582-AA
F2TE-G015.BA FORD I6
Intake # 1305A
Think it may be a diesel setup possibly.
I can get pics to post i needed. Any input is greatly appriciated

The problem may be that you still are supposed to meet the federal requirements but who's checking?
Here is a link to the EFI kit that I installed;
Jeep TBI Products :: TBI KIT: 1981-86 CJ 4.2L Emissions Legal - Howell Engine Developments, Inc.

It really made a huge difference and less than the Mopar kit. If you do not need smog then you can save another hundred or so and some distributors have these on sale, I decided to go straight to Howell for customer service reasons. Pretty straight forward and only took a weekend to install. Here is a link to that installation manual;

there is a vacuum diagram that may help you.
I would consider replacing that Carter Carburetor whatever you decide. I also installed an HEI Distributor and Magnaflow exhaust. Most of the stuff from that era wasn't all that good. I am sure that with allot of work and some out of the box thinking you could get the original stuff working but why?
