New 1960 Jeep

New 1960 Jeep
Thanks for the info about the 6 or 12 volt. Now that I tink about it the jeep does have a set of fog lights mounted on the bumper so I will see if they are 12 volt. :)

You may find that if the CJ was delivered with the 16" wheel that the axle ratio is 5:38 as compared with the 4:27 ratio used with the 15" wheel.
Are the rear axles flanged or tapered? easy to tell if they have a nut on the hub flange then they are the tapered.

All D44s were tapered (2 piece) from the factory till 1970, when they changed to the flanged axle, the good thing is if you have a tapered axle, you can turn it into a full floating axle real easy. Herm the Overdrive guy, and we has his link in our link section, sells a kit that you have a load of options with.
one of the best things is he also grinds the shafts so you can get a modern carrier in the pumpkin, or add a modern locker or Limited slip. This is a important upgrade if you are going out into the back country with your rig.
Plus it makes flat towing a breeze.

I believe the front and rear diffs still have the ratio tags on them so I will check when I pick it up, as far as the rear axle yes it does have the nuts on them.

All 1960 axles will have those nuts, they are the tapered axle
see my earlier post:chug:

I was under the false impression they were an option in early years, they are listed in my Jeep universal SM-1046 that I had thought was a 1965 print and I now find it is a 72 print.

It's almost Saturday (can't wait anymore)!!! spoke with the owner today and he has a tow bar and a set of chrome wheels with 31's? that I can have if I want them. What a deal. :)

I picked my new 1960 CJ5 today, got it home cleaned the points ran a new gas line and she started right up. Sounds good couldn't leave it running very long as it needs a new radaitor. This one is going to be a frame off resto going to keep it orginial as it was in 1960. :D:D

:drool:Pics please:drool:

I will post a bunch of pictures later today. I have a question for everyone what color should the stock 16 inch wheels be painted ? they are currently red.

CJ3b wheels came painted in various colors depending on the body color durings it's run from 53-64 but the 5 wheel I can say I have only seen them a creamy white color. Could be wrong though. :)

Well I guess I was wrong :D

The new Jeep runs pretty good was able to patch the radaitor enough to let it run for about an hour or so I was able to drive it in and out of the garage about ten times( or maybe it was twenty). Seems to run good all gears work the only issuse is can't get it into 2 wheel high? Here are a few pictures of the new Jeep

The factory seat would have a tubular steel frame and a hinged front mount that bolts to the tool box, they are hard to come by so that's good if it is.
looks like a solid project and nearly all there.:chug:

Thanks Sasquach I will post a picture of the seat shortly.

Here is a few pictures of the pass seat, I do have the metal hinges that bolt to the top of the tool box. I also have the drivers seat frame but someone has cut the two rear upright tubs off.

This may be a long shot, but I just bought the same hard top you have in these photos, it was in pieces but I got it all back together but it is missing the guide bracket for the back hatch. This is what rides in the track to hold top of door to track when you open hatch. Anyone have any pics of this so I could fab up one??? Thanks
