1980 CJ7 Laredo, V8, auto,
Can anyone confirm the width of the horizontal surface of the wheel wells in the rear of a CJ5 or older. I just received my new carpet from stock interiors and it is not even close.

My CJ7 measures 11.5 inches wide and the carpet sent measures 10.25. Also my floor section measures ~39x36 and the carpet measures 38x32.

Their customer service is looking into it but i thought the forum mught be faster with an answer.

There are other sections that are poorly cut and trimmed and they already sent a return shipping label. I am surprised because the company has great reviews about quality.

Does anyone have a better suggestion than ACC Matts for the carpet?

Thanks
Chris

I know you don't want to hear this, but I have to say it. Carpet is bad for a CJ. Water gets under the carpet and rots the floor pan. ..... alright I've said it, now you can proceed..... Your carpet should fit better than it does.

I live is Nevada, we get about an inch of rain a year, but i understand the rust issue.

If I were in the rust belt i wouldn't do it.

That is why when I get around to installing the carpet I am first going to put in a quality bed liner, then it can get as wet as it wants. I am also going to cut the carpet so it can be removed without unbolting anything.

I live in Arizona, a place not known for rain, My Jeep had carpet and was well on it's way to rusting through it's second set of floor boards. The doors leaked some and the PO didn't know it so the Jeep sat with closed doors and water under the carpet.

I get it about the rust, I ran my last jeep with carpet and never had an issue. I expoxied the pans top and bottom when the tub was off.

Anyway, does anyone know is a pre76 cj was different in the rear seat area? Width and length??? I am hoping they just made me carpet for a CJ3 or something and the next one will fit better.

Chris

I'm confused, why are you asking for measurements for a vehicle you aren't installing the carpet in?

All carpet or no carpet aside.......send it back, it doesn't fit. Keep sending it back till you get one that fits. Maybe try emailing the photos you took to someone in customer service. Rod

I was wondering if ACCmatts sent me carpet for a cj3 or older CJ5 . No one in their customer service has specs. Example; is a pre75 cj has a rear deck of 32x38 then they probably sent the wrong carpet.

They agree the fit is wrong and will send another but if it is just going to be the same it is a waste of time. Someone from ACC is supposed to call, Just thought i would try to find a few answers first.

Thanks,
Chris

So, tell them the size of your Jeep ..... My '75 CJ5 is 36x48 inthe back. The '75 tub is interchangable with a 1952 tub.

Update,

On a different jeep forum a user commented he had the same issues and chose not to use the carpet. My guess is the ACC Matt company does not have the correct mold for CJ's.

If anyone has any knowledge of their own fit issues with "stock interiors" aka "ACC matt", voice it here. I will forward this thread to their customer service dept.

Chris

You see, it's fait, even the manufacturer doesn't support carpet in a CJ Jeep. After all it's not a living room, it's a Jeep. Mud, blood, oil, grease and beer don't look good on a carpet. :)

No, gottta have carpet in mine, My house has ALL tile floors in it. I hate it! Not to mention that it is hard on my knees. So, since I got a say in this.................about the only thing I have a say in these days. :D

I got some samples from a company on eBay that does custom molded carpet for a lot of different vehicles - Auto Mat Store - They even have rubber back available. Here is What I asked for:

The carpet is going back but i would like to wrap this project up sometime soon and the appeal of trying carpets out for the next few month is low.

Update, Rodney from ACC Mat has called and they are working on correcting this issue. They are being proactive and want to fix it for all future purchasers. I have mocked up my carpet best i can and I am sending it to him.

If someone on the forum lives near Anniston, AL ACC might use your jeep and give you a free carpet. If anyone is interested and close PM me and I will get you in touch with them.

Auto Mat Store distributes for ACC. 99% of the carpet is going to come from them.

Hello again,

ACC Matt is making a new mold for CJs. I can update after they complete mine. Stock Interior, along with ACC have been 100% pro active and they want it to be the best the can make.

In today's world of Chinese junk, I applaud both companies for the effort.

Will update when i get the carpet,
Chris

I am ripping out the cheezy carpet and finding rust and holes, you mentioned before carpet you would put in a good bedliner. What brand and kind would you use?
